Water-Jet Turn-Up System
A fully automatic, non-contact water-jet turn-up system for all paper grades — compatible with conventional tape and pneumatic-assist turn-up equipment, delivering over 99.9% turn-up success rate and dramatically less reel-spool broke and spool damage.
Product Overview
Installed above the reel drum, the Tecno Turn Up System uses a servo-driven carriage carrying the cutting water jet to cut the sheet at high speed, instantaneously transferring the sheet from the parent reel to the new core at full speed — turn-up without stopping the machine.
Non-contact water-jet cutting produces a perfect tail edge, and flexible turn-up modes adapt to any paper grade and machine speed. The system works alongside conventional tape or pneumatic-assist turn-up equipment, and can also be specified as the standard turn-up solution for new machines.
How It Works
One Turn-Up, Step by Step
System Composition
Five Core Units
Traversing Beam
Servo-driven cutting nozzle slices the web at high speed; trajectory, speed and starting point are precisely controlled.
High-Pressure Pump Unit
Advanced air-driven intensifiers generate ultra-high-pressure water with long-term pressure retention — turn-up is available even during a sheet break.
High-Pressure Water Valve Cabinet
The distribution valve cabinet precisely controls the firing timing of the water jet with millisecond precision for consistent turn-ups.
Sealant System
The air-driven intensifier sealant pump holds pressure over long periods; combined with high-pressure dripless sealant valves, it precisely controls spray coverage and sealant consumption to secure every turn-up.
Control System
Connected to the paper machine DCS for fully automatic turn-up with no operator intervention.
Technical Advantages
Why Water-Jet Cutting
High pressure retained over long periods — turn-up available even during sheet breaks; millisecond-level program control delivers over 99.9% turn-up success rate.
Ultra-high-pressure water carries enough energy to cut any sheet; diamond nozzles offer unmatched wear resistance and tiny orifices use minimal water per turn-up without disturbing production.
Cutting speeds up to 12 m/s minimize spool broke; the cut tail lies flat on the spool — no folding, no nip marks.
On wide machines, chevron tails can shatter at high speed and throw debris into the reel, causing breaks or defects — the edge sealant system solves this effectively.
Customer Benefits
Very Short Payback Period
Thick, curled spool broke produced by conventional turn-up
Case Study
Turn-Up Units Idle for 6 Years, Back in Service
Five 5600 mm high-speed tissue machines at a large tissue mill abroad had turn-up units out of use for over six years — restored one by one inside existing production stops.
